Sopra Banking Software is recruiting a Senior Technical Author for our Technical Documentation team based in our vibrant Sheffield city centre office. This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Technical Author looking for a varied role in a small department looking to expand the Documentation Management and Knowledge Management function.

The role of the Senior Technical Author is a full time, permanent position providing development of documentation for product releases to assist our customers in understanding new features by translating these into easily understandable user guides. The Senior Technical Author will assist in writing and proofing the Product Release documentation, User Help and Product Guides to support customers.

The key duties are to:

  • Collaborate with experts on crafting structure technical content improving comprehension and consistency of the documentation and eliminating ambiguity.
  • Work with experts to understand new features and products in order to relay functionality to the end user.
  • Be able to share knowledge and supervise (functionally or technically) where relevant including coaching less experienced team members.
  • Ensuring the documentation content adheres to corporate standards and guidelines while contributing to improving quality standards.
  • Contribute to the design, content and structure of the documentation supporting the release of projects and products according to the type of project.
  • Demonstrate an ability to increase functional and technical knowledge and apply these skills
  • Participate in customer and internal meetings and/or committees.


The candidates should have the following key attributes:

  • Minimum of A Level in English
  • Excellent proof reading skills, with a high attention to detail and quality
  • Written and verbal communication skills to a very high standard
  • Knowledge of appropriate output types and publishing styles
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Microsoft Office - advanced Word Skills and competent in Excel and PowerPoint
  • At Least 3 years’ experience of writing documentation for others, preferably in a software development environment
  • Be self-motivated, organised and has the ability to cope with working to fixed deadlines

Experience in Madcap Suite (particularly Madcap Flare)

  • Experience in using JIRA
  • Experience in Documentation Management
  • Experience leading the production of release documentation for large projects
  • Desirable experience in the Financial Sector

Basic salary of £27,000 - £30,000 p/a
